Harper Lee had written the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. She made this novel based on a six year old girl in the 1930 ́s. Harper had first written this book in a thirty year old's perspective, but the publishers told her to rewrite it to sound like a six year old's perspective. This book was written about the 1930’s and was published in the 1960's. Harper Lee says this book was not an autobiography, but this book has many similarities to her life. For example, Harper Lee’s father was a lawyer, just like Atticus Finch. Also, Lee’s childhood friends have said that she was a tomboy, just like Scout from her novel.
To Kill A Mockingbird is a very mysterious novel and that makes it very intriguing to read. The book includes a lot of friendship, racism, and hardship in the 1930s. We rated this book 8 out of 10 Boo Radley. The book was very unique due to the fact that scout the narrator is actually the author Harper Lee. All the stuff that happened in the book actually occurred in Harper Lee's childhood. This book is written amazingly about the hard times in the 1930s. The story is about a white man Atticus Finch defending a black man Tom Robinson in a rape trial. If you read this novel you would love it. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, there were many parts that were both good and bad. For example, in the novel the trial was very good, and had a lot of interesting parts with it. The trial had a lot of details and it was very clear on what was going on, so we liked it. But after the trial happened it got very confusing and boring. We did not like the end of the book after the trial as much as during and before the trial. The end was not as good as we had hoped it would be, and was not what we were expecting. We would have liked to seen Jem wake up the next day, and found out if he will ever play football again. Throughout the novel, you'll find many different types of figurative language. It is very confusing in some of the chapters since the figurative language is hidden. You ́ll have to reread the section to understand it. For example, you will find many sections that talk about ̈closed doors.̈ This is a type of figurative language which is used throughout the town, Maycomb. The statement is known to be used as an illness or bad weather. That is why in Maycomb there will never be closed doors unless it is a very serious situation going through town. Many chapters have figurative language, which pretty much adds up to the resolution at the end of the book. There would never be one page that does not talk about flashbacks, symbolism, or figurative language. We would rate the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird 3.5/5 Boo radleys. We really enjoyed reading this book, because there were a lot of figurative language, cliff-hangers, symbolism, and more. We really liked how Harper Lee added this into the book, because it would make the book more interesting and fun to read. The symbolism throughout the chapters, helped us understand more about the characters and how they are really like. The reason why we didn’t give the novel a higher rating was because, at some points it was very confusing, there were some unanswered questions, and the ending was a bit disappointing. In all, we really liked reading this novel since it was challenging for us, and very enjoyable. |
